For long periods during a sabbatical that ended up lasting a year, it felt like Yellow might end altogether. However, an idea about a new form did finally emerge, sparked off by a conversation with one of our participants, Sam Smith. This felt very fitting and foreshadowed the more co-creative form of Yellow that we are now going to explore.
The start point was the sense of fatigue and ennui that we (and others) felt with being on-line and Sam’s (contrarian) instinct was to ask what would happen if we made things more difficult, not easier. This creative constraint was what we needed and it lead to a stream of ideas. The feeling we have now[1], of both possibility and uncertainty, mirrors what we felt back in 2020 when this all began.
